About [Edit]
Consumer Action is a non-profit, membership-based organization that was founded in San Francisco in 1971. Since then, Consumer Action has continued to serve consumers nationwide by advancing consumer rights, referring consumers to complaint-handling agencies through our free hotline, publishing educational materials in Chinese, English, Korean, Spanish, Vietnamese and other languages, advocating for consumers in the media and before lawmakers, and comparing prices on credit cards, bank accounts, and long distance services.
Consumer Action [CA] is a pioneering non-profit advocacy and education organization that has served consumers since 1971. CA has a national reputation for multilingual consumer education and advocacy in the fields of credit, banking, privacy, insurance, utilities and HMOs.

CA provides free, non-legal advice and referrals on a wide range of issues, in Chinese, English and Spanish
Free Multilingual Publications
CA distributes more than two million free publications annually in California and around the nation. Our publications are available in English, Spanish and Chinese and often in Korean, Vietnamese and other languages as well. We also have selected consumer education videos available.
Outreach
CA`s multilingual and multicultural Community Advocates conduct outreach through a state and national network of more than 6,500 community-based and government agencies. They provide educational materials and technical assistance to these agencies, counsel consumers, offer workshops, provide education at community events and work with media organizations.
Advocacy
The Advocacy Department brings together a core group of community-based agencies to mobilize support for the passage of pro-consumer legislation, advocate for access to financial and telephone services, and educate people about consumer issues.
CA promotes state and federal pro-consumer laws and regulations, and has helped pass laws concerning privacy, health care and financial and telecommunications services.
The organization monitors California and federal regulatory bodies and has testified before committees of Congress and the California Legislature.
CA is also sought after by the national media to provide expert commentary.
The National Consumer Resource Center [NCRC]
The NCRC distributes free multilingual educational publications in bulk to community agencies to help them educate and inform their clients about current consumer issues. Order forms are available to these agencies upon request.
These materials can also be found on Consumer Action`s multilingual website [www.consumer-action.org] and can be browsed online or printed out as camera-ready master copies for reproduction. [Please alert us if you are planning to reproduce any of our publications in bulk.]
Healthy Children Organizing Project
