About  [Edit]

The OFNCS is a society for anybody interested in natural history, preservation of the environment and conservation.

Meetings are held on the second Thursday of each month (except December and January) at Bowen Public School, Park Street, Orange, commencing at 8pm.

Each meeting features a guest speaker on a topic of natural history, environmental health, conservation issues or natural heritage.

On the Sunday following the meeting, we have a field excursion which usually follows a theme linked to the speaker's topic at the meeting. Destinations are within the Central West of NSW and are easily reachable from Orange.

Recent field trips have included birdwatching, a fossil hunt, insect and spider collecting, plant and small mammal surveys, weed removal and bushwalking.

Members of the Society have a wide range of interests and include professional scientists, amateur naturalists, students, children with interests in animals, environmental activists and other people who are interested in, and care about, the natural world around them.
