About [Edit]
Until 2003, the mission of ABF was solely to support and acquire land for the Anza-Borrego Desert State Park. We do this through outright donation or purchase from willing sellers. Once acquired, these lands are then transferred to the Park by various methods. In the 33 years since our original formation, ABF has acquired about 30,000 acres in this manner leaving us with an additional 25-30,000 acres yet to be obtained.
In 2003, at the request of the Colorado Desert District of California State Parks, the Anza Borrego Foundation took on the challenge of supporting and augmenting the education, interpretation, and research functions of the District. This led to a new Mission Statement:
"The Anza-Borrego Foundation promotes conservation through land acquisition, education, interpretation, and scientific studies. We conduct this mission through Acquisition of lands for Anza-Borrego State ParkĀ® education, interpretation and scientific research in the surrounding ecological region."
The Anza-Borrego Institue has launched a variety of programs to meet these goals including field programsfor adult learners, research symposiums, fifth grade conservation camp, scientific awards program, Elderhostel programs and a major fundraising campaign for a new Archaeology Center for the Districts collections, including those that survived the Cedar Fire. We also manage the sales area at the ABDSP Visitor Center.
