Background: Founded as the Alliance for African Refugees [AFAR], AALP changed its name in April 1996. AALP is a non-political, non-religious voluntary organization.
Objectives: While it originally worked to improve the situation of African refugees, the organization has broadened its mandate. Its objectives are now the welfare of the the less-privileged in African society, including, but not restricted to refugees.
