Adhikar has established with its unique identity i.e as a human rights defending organization with a collective agenda of group of young activists, volunteers, professionals and individuals during 1991.
As of its preliminary intervention, extended moral, relief, counseling and legal support to evicted slum dwellers during massive slum displacement of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation during 1992. Explored the possibilities to extend support towards helpless migrant workers of Khurda & Nayagarh district of Orissa to industrialized cities of other states and facilitated a user friendly Money Remittance process of migrant workers at Gujarat. Extended Legal support to Burmese Repatriates of Ranpur block of Nayagarh district in mobilizing their rehabilitation package of Government.
Adhikar programmes & activities-
Microfinance Programmes in three innovations
1. Women Self Help Cooperatives –A institutional model of rural & urban poor women facilitates activities leading towards their socio-economic & political empowerment.
2.Shramik Sahajog- a platform of migrant workers of Orissa working at Gujarat, which facilitates a user friendly Money Remittance process and bridges up the gap between them & their depending living in Orissa

3.Adhikar Microfinance Pvt Ltd- the microfinance institution (MFI) of Adhikar addresses the small loan needs of urban & rural poor through promoting Grameen Model groups among women members.
4. SLIC: Existing legal structure & provision needs to be understood by people at to enjoy dignified living. Adhikar as a aright based organization usually participates in various issue based and like minded networks of NGOs & civil Society organizations of regional, national and international level as well as towards formulation of pro poor policies and fighting for their rights.

5. Capacity Building – Adhikar facilitates capacity building support of Micro finance practitioners, NGOs & target beneficiaries through its Micro Finance Resource Development Centre (MFRDC)
6. Natural resource based Livelihood promotion & Food Security programme- addresses.
Capacity building needs of farmers on agriculture, intensive vegetable cultivation practices, community farming & orchard practices and on organic farming.
It also helps in increasing of soil moisture of the area through constructing water harvesting structure & perculation tank, plantation & gully plugging etc.
7. Disaster response & Issue based networking
Adhikar as a humanitarian organization had extended the relief & rehabilitation support towards the victims of Super Cyclone in Orissa during 1999, Earthquake victims of Gujarat during 2002, flood victim during 2001 & 2008.
