About  [Edit]

Homewaters Project, formerly the Thornton Creek Project, is an educational nonprofit organization located in the Thornton Creek watershed on North Seattle Community College`s campus. We believe that a sustainable future for the Puget Sound region depends on young people becoming informed and engaged citizens who understand the connections between people and nature and recognize that they have the power to make a difference in their home communities.

Our mission is to develop an engaged and informed citizenry by connecting people to nature and each other in the context of their home communities.

Our vision is that throughout their education, people are prepared and inspired to create healthy communities, where human activities fit within the limits of natural systems.

Achieving the mission

We strive to achieve our mission through our three key education programs: Watershed Ecology, Community Mapping and Local History, as well as maintaining and expanding our digital library and website. All of our programs are question driven, linked to existing school curricula, and address academic standards. We provide training and workshops to teachers and lead field trips through our Watershed Ecology programs. Community members can get involved through our Long Walks, community events, and volunteering opportunities.
