About  [Edit]

Introduction

World Vision International is a Christian relief and development organisation working for the well being of all people, especially children.

Through emergency relief, education, health care, economic development and promotion of justice, World Vision helps communities help themselves.

Established in 1950 to care for orphans in Asia, World Vision has grown to embrace the larger issues of community development and advocacy for the poor in its mission to help children and their families build sustainable futures.

Working on six continents, World Vision is one of the largest Christian relief and development organisations in the world.

The heart of World Vision's work is in helping communities build stronger and healthier relationships. The absence of such relationships impoverishes communities.

World Vision focuses on children because they are the best indicator of a community's social health. When children are fed, sheltered, schooled, protected, valued, and loved a community thrives.

Community development:

Helping people to discover and use their own vision, skills, and resources to move from abject poverty to abundant living.

Targeting critical needs: clean water, reliable food supplies, access to basic health care, access to education, and income-generating microeconomic development.

Partnering with churches, governments, local organizations, and international agencies

Disaster Relief:

* Responding to sudden natural disasters and slow-building humanitarian emergencies around the world.

* Saving lives and reducing suffering by tracking crises, pre-positioning emergency supplies for immediate response, and remaining after the crisis to rebuild and restore communities.

Globle issues:

Engaging a worldwide AIDS Hope Initiative of prevention and care, especially for widows, orphans, and vulnerable children, that brings a compassionate Christian response to the HIV/AIDS pandemic.

In the 1980s, World Vision sent 'humanitarian' aid to the Contras in Nicaragua, who were responsible for years of terror and murder of civilians in Nicaragua.
