About [Edit]
Mission:
The Food Commission is an independent food watchdog campaigning for safer, healthier food in the UK. We value our independence, because it leaves us free to criticise bad practice and praise good practice, without compromise. We believe that knowingly accepting campaign funding from the food industry might compromise our ability to provide independent advice and information on food and health issues.
Increasingly, charities, public-health organisations and campaign groups are grappling with the problem of how to maintain and extend their activities, and where to find the funds to enable them to do so. In response to the challenges posed by fundraising, and the growing reliance by charitable and campaign groups on sponsorship from commercial organisations, we have chosen to publish this funding policy.
We are committed to our independence, and to being open about our funding policy. We seek to share our concerns, beliefs and commitment with other campaign groups and charities – especially those for whom public health is of primary concern. We hope that this funding policy may also assist commercial organisations, who sometimes offer their financial or in-kind support, to understand why we must refuse these offers.
The Food Commission cares about the food we eat and is committed to ensuring good quality food for all. The Food Commission is a national non-profit organisation campaigning for the right to safe, wholesome food.
The Food Commission is largely funded by public subscriptions and donations and takes no subsidy from the government or food industry, allowing us to be completely a independent campaigning organisation.
