About [Edit]
CEC is an evolving family of programs that changes and adapts with the environmental challenges faced on the South Coast. While our scope of work deals mainly with San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara and Ventura counties, our influence and the bi-products of our innovation has and will be felt on state-wide, national and global levels. We have four focus areas:
Water
All life on Earth needs clean water to survive. CEC is working to keep pollution from entering our waters and is restoring habitats and functions that naturally filter our shared water resources and support wildlife.
Energy
Over reliance on fossil fuels jeopardizes our economic future and pollutes our air and water. CEC is working to develop and promote innovative energy approaches that are more sustainable, cost-efficient and Earth-friendly.
Sustainable Land Use and Transportation
Past and current development patterns have created a situation where our region’s workers can no longer afford to live where they work. Meanwhile, major traffic corridors are often snarled and our precious open space — including agricultural lands — continue to disappear. CEC is encouraging visionary, integrated planning and development that looks far into the future, and which examines housing, transportation and open space needs simultaneously.
Education
State and federal budget cuts in education jeopardize the quality and quantity of environmental education. CEC is filling in the gaps created by this situation and is quickly becoming one of the only regional organizations with a comprehensive environmental curriculum.
Programs involve the following areas:
- Energy Programs
- Environmental Education
- Healing Ground
- Pesticide Reduction
- Pollution Prevention
- Sustainable Land Use
- Water Use
