About [Edit]
ASJE`s mission is to nurture this new possibility by building a strong and broad-based national network of local and regional blue-green alliances. In this way, we will help create the basis for a new social contract in which "nature is protected, the worker is respected, and unrestrained corporate power is rejected."
The ASJE Restoration Jobs Working Group is working toward a "restoration economy" that conserves the environment while providing stable, family-wage employment.
The current focus of the Working Group is bringing together environmentalists and workers in the Pacific Northwest to pursue opportunities to create good jobs in forest and watershed restoration, developing a "high-road" approach with well-trained, well-paid workers.
The North Coast Restoration Jobs Initiative project steering committee has been working for more than a year in Northern California.
In Oregon, ASJE is bringing environmentalists and labor together around a proposal to create "quality jobs" on state lands.
In Washington, work is focused on a demonstration project on the Gifford Pinchot National Forest. Regionally, the Working Group seeks to complete a Restoration Jobs Study to provide the first comprehensive "blueprint" for restoration jobs in the Northwest.
