About [Edit]
The Center for Psychosocial Rehabilitation for Victims of Torture exists to help heal the wounds of State-sponsored torture inflicted on individuals for political, religious or other ethnic reasons. The centre works to mobilise communities to support the healing, integration and normalisation of torture survivors.
The primary objectives are to:
- Help resolve the impact of torture experiences and post-traumatic stress, and decrease the incidence of psychiatric hospitalisation.
- Help torture survivors become physically and medically stabilised, and decrease the incidence of medical emergencies.
- Help clients achieve their educational, vocational, recreational or other goals that would make them feel more productive and more satisfied.
- Help clients achieve better adjustment and acculturation to their new environment in the United States.
