About  [Edit]

Vision

To make the Sierra Gorda (Mexico) bio-region and the on-going local conservation movement a top priority on a global scale and provide outlets to the regional products through the San Francisco Bay Area.

Mission

Establish a San Francisco Bay Area presence to raise awareness, pride, and build networks internationally in order to support the long-term conservation and sustainability of the Sierra Gorda Biosphere Reserve (Mexico).

Little known facts

The Sierra Gorda is a unique transition zone between three bio-regions and varied altitudes, every ecosystem of megadiverse Mexico is found there, except for the marine.

The only Biosphere Reserve in Mexico to be decreed in response to widespread local consensus – incorporating 680 communities and 100,000 people across northern Queretaro State

Conservation and reforestation take place on private property that constitutes 97% of the 1 million acres of the Sierra Gorda Biosphere Reserve (the size of Rhode Island).

The Sierra Gorda Biosphere Reserve is the largest natural protected area in Mexico managed through invested community participation.

Viva Serra Gorda is a project of the Earth Island Institute (EII)
