About Us
Conservation Halton is a community based environmental agency that protects local ecosystems in partnership with its watershed municipalities. As an agency established under the Conservation Authorities Act of Ontario, Conservation Halton forms a partnership with the Province of Ontario and the Regional Municipalities of Halton, Peel and Hamilton-Wentworth and Puslinch Township.
Our Mission:
"To protect and enhance the natural environment
from lake to escarpment for present and future generations."
Our Key Roles:
* Environmental Protection
Conservation Halton protects local ecosystems and contributes to the quality of life in communities throughout the watershed.
* Water Resources Management
Conservation Halton manages water resources using integrated, ecologically sound environmental practices to maintain secure supplies of clean water, to protect communities from flooding and to ensure that environmental planning is an integral part of community development.
* Forest Resources Management
Conservation Halton manages a large forest resource using sound sustainable forest management practices involving silviculture and wildlife habitat improvements which contribute to the health of the watershed’s natural environment.
* Lifelong Education and Recreation
Conservation Halton creates educational and recreational experiences in natural environments that enrich the lives of people of all ages by instilling awareness and appreciation of the watershed’s natural heritage.
Our Environmental Promise:
Conservation Halton will:
* Provide responsible stewardship of significant natural areas held in trust for watershed residents and beyond.
* Help people appreciate and enjoy the watershed’s important natural features including the world renowned Niagara Escarpment, the Lake Ontario shoreline and abundant wetlands and creeks.
* Provide expert and cost-effective environmental management services to our municipal partners.
* Make ethical and objective decisions that balance the needs of the environment with the need for human safety and economic development.
* Conduct our environmental protection programs in a business-like manner while realizing that watershed residents own this natural heritage which greatly contributes to the health of our community.
* Provide leadership in creating awareness of watershed environmental issues and concerns.
Our Corporate Values:
Conservation Halton directors and staff strive for excellence and lead by example with a commitment to:
* the well-being of the natural environment
* being accountable to watershed residents
* improving programs and providing value to our stakeholders
Our Vision Symbol:
The turkey vulture is a common bird in the watershed that symbolizes the significant natural heritage of the area. Cradled in the bird’s soaring wings, in a protective manner, a stylized Niagara Escarpment with trees portrays the watershed’s most significant natural feature, with the wavy line depicting the creeks and Lake Ontario shoreline.
