About  [Edit]

(FACRP) is a community base agro-forestry project that started in 1982 by a group of grass root farmers living in the Fondes Amandes Watershed. The seeds for the FACRP were sown in by the late Tacuma Jaramogi and wife Akilah Jaramogi current Managing Director of the project.

The project has succeeded in planting over 35,000 trees and transforming fire climax grassland into a viable fruit bearing organic agro-forestry project.

Members of the community have benefitted from these educational efforts and, the annual fire trace cutting Gayaps have resulted in a drastic reduction in the incidences of bush fires. The Project has been fire free since 1997.

The Project has also been successful in involving school groups, educating young people about the importance of watershed protection and the benefits of organic, agricultural practices.

The FACRP uses the permaculture model of ecosystem regeneration and does not employ any petrochemicals, pesticides or fertilizers. Tree planting, fire trace ctting and community Gayaps are held annually in support of the reforestation and corresponding fire prevention programs.
