About [Edit]
Everyone has something to say. Everyone has something unique and essential to offer the world. And that includes you. Speak Your Soul encourages the thoughtful and creative expression of every individual, the exchange of ideas and application of passion through action in the human community. On speakyoursoul.org you will find ideas that incite your mind, poems that stir your soul, and community resources that inspire you to act.
Speak Your Soul encourages every individual to discover their own voice and power and live out their unique and essential identity in mind, body, and spirit. Speak Your Soul is a young organization seeking community partners and Spoken Word poets to partner with and feature on speakyoursoul.org. Though based in Tacoma, Speak Your Soul is growing a poetry community in Hilo, Hawai'i and seeks to support and expand the presence of Spoken Word poetry across the United States.
November 2009 Update:
Whether you live in Tacoma or on Hawai'i Island, there are are some great events coming up in your area - plus a great new feature on Speakyoursoul.org. Tacoma has a Poetry marathon, Art Slam, and a great new bookfrom Tammy Robacker. Hilo . . . the annual "Black & White Night" is this Friday - and Speak Your Soul is joining in this great community art event. And, the great new feature? Video of Spoken Word. Check out "I Self" from Josh Rizeberg.
Check Speakyoursoul.org regularly for poetry and events - and remember, everyone has something to say.

What is Art Slam? Here's is how the organizers describe it: "In a fast-paced format, a selection of work by local visual and performing artists will be projected on the big screen, set to a soundtrack of musical accompaniment. Live performances by spoken word artists will be interspersed between segments of the show . . . The event is meant to be a fun, relaxed and inspiring evening, reminding us why we create art in the first place." Sounds like a must-see event to me - and you just might catch a performance from a Speak Your Soul poet!
Featured Event - Hawai'i Island:
Speak Your Soul @ Ka Huina
Friday, November 6th @ 7pm: Ka Huina Gallery
Hilo's Annual Black & White Night is always an exciting night of community and artistry. And to join in the festivities, Speak Your Soul and Ka Huina Gallery are hosting a special night of poetry, art and music. So, as you explore all the great venues that night in Downtown Hilo, be sure to make a stop at Ka Huina for music, art, and poetry from Zach Street, Tomas Belsky, Marshall Zar, Pomaika'i Freed, Mailie Ngirmidol and more.
Spoken Word is best experienced when performed live. Video is the next best thing. And now, Speak Your Soul is bringing words to life through video performances on Speakyoursoul.org. Josh Rizeberg is our first poet to have video posted to Speakyoursoul.org and I suggest you watch his performance (click here). Also watch for more Spoken Word video to come to Speakyoursoul.org soon.
Remember to check Speakyoursoul.org regularly for events, poetry and more - and we hope to see you at one of our upcoming events in Hilo and Tacoma.
Peace & Poetry,
Zach
