About [Edit]
Who We Are
Washington Citizen Action is a statewide, grassroots lobbying organization. With over 50,000 members, we are the largest consumer advocacy group in the state. We work on a range of issues with the broad aim of bringing about greater economic justice in our state and the country. Our board represents a coalition of groups including labor, senior, faith, and community organizations. Our field and telephone canvasses do education, activation, and fundraising with our members. Our strength as an organization depends on our members` involvement.
Mission Statement
The mission of WCA is to achieve economic fairness in order to establish a democratic society characterized by racial and social justice, with respect for diversity, and a decent quality of life for those who reside in Washington State.
Core Organizational Values
Economic, Racial, Gender and Social Justice for All.
Decent Quality of Life for All.
Change relations of power so all individuals can significantly impact decisions that affect their lives.
Shared community and collective responsibility.
Respect for diversity and building strong communities.
Truly democratic society with open honest participation by all.
Statement of Purpose
Washington Citizen Action exists to create a new dynamic in Washington politics, by uniting the major progressive organizations in Washington to project an agenda of economic populism in the public arena. Progressive groups in Washington need to speak with one voice on some of the key issues that unite our many organizations. The purpose of WCA is to increase citizen participation in economic and political decision-making; to win meaningful and concrete improvements in the lives of Washington residents; and to unite the major progressive groups in Washington in a coalition effort with the following goals:
Develop a limited agenda of issues that members of the Washington Citizen Action coalition agree on by consensus.
Work with Washington`s major progressive organizations - labor, church, senior citizen, minority, and community groups - to develop and run progressive issue campaigns that combine our separate efforts.
Develop the ongoing capacity to successfully run statewide issue campaigns, backed by research, education, local organizing, media work, and grass-roots public outreach.
