The New Energy Foundation (NEF) was established as a non-profit organization in September 1980, immediately after the two oil crises, which made us recognize that ensuring a stable supply of energy was a most important issue for Japan. The activities of NEF are conducted under the cooperation of energy suppliers, such as electric power suppliers and gas suppliers, and other enterprises concerned with new energy technologies in extensive areas, with the full amount of the basic assets covered by private donations.

Mission

To sustain Japan's economic growth and stabilize its national life, the most important issue is to ensure a stable supply of energy.

For this, it is necessary to tackle securing oil stable, promoting effective use of energy and diversifying energy resources. That is, it is urgently necessary to expand the use of coal, and LNG, and to promote energy conservation, while promoting the development and use of new energy, such as the solar power, wind power, and fuel cells, as well as untapped indigenous energy, such as medium-to-small-scale hydraulic energy, geothermal energy, and waste heat.

Activities

The role of the NEF is to perform such activities as surveys, research, introduction, and spreading of new energy, indigenous energy, and other energy remaining unused. Also, NEF organizes the opinions of private circles, to present proposals and opinions concerning methods of promoting the development and use of new energy and other energy, to the national Government and other governmental organizations concerned, in efforts to realize them.

Furthermore, the NEF performs these activities under close and multilateral liaison with private organizations, government organizations, and enterprises concerned. We aim to contribute to the development of new energy industries and regional economies, and to the stable supply of energy in Japan.
