About  [Edit]

The Australian Marine Conservation Society (AMCS) is a national, not-for-profit charity whose mission is to protect the health and vitality of Australia's coasts and oceans. AMCS is a consistent and persuasive voice on a wide range of marine issues throughout Australia including the declaration of marine protected areas, sustainable fisheries, recovery of threatened species and land-based pollution.

As a not-for-profit charity, AMCS is a membership-based society which is managed by a group of dedicated volunteers and supported financially and participatory by thousands of people around Australia.

AMCS operates a head office in Brisbane, Queensland, and a regional office in Darwin, Northern Territory. AMCS also has active branches in most Australian states and the Northern Territory.

AMCS uses many strategies to achieve its campaign goals:

1) We are "voices of the sea" on international, national and regionally focused advisory committees

2) We organise and present at conferences and workshops

3) We communicate our key messages to the broader community through the public media

4) We actively support marine research that helps us better understand our oceans.

5) We form partnerships with conservationists and other stakeholders from time-to-time to affect change.
