About  [Edit]

China Labor Watch [CLW] is an independent not-for-profit organization whose mission is the realization and defense of labor rights in China. CLW seeks the enforcement of labor laws provided for under the laws of the PRC as well as internationally recognized protections. CLW seeks to help China`s workers become more informed of their rights, and to empower them to pursue and realize these rights within their communities. Also, through education of the international community CLW seeks to promote awareness about the current situation of labor and the conditions under which it finds itself in China.

In accordance with the principles of the International Labor Organization, China Labor Watch’s fundamental beliefs are:

· Freedom of expression and of association are essential to sustained progress;

· poverty anywhere constitutes a danger to prosperity everywhere;

· The war against want requires to be carried on with continuous effort in which the representatives of workers and employers, enjoying equal status with those of governments, join with them in free discourse with a view to the promotion of the common welfare.

· Workers are entitled to dignity; their labor is not a commodity.

Accordingly, CLW will seek to initiate programs which will:

· Help the Chinese labor movement become more informed;

· Promote increased international attention and understanding of China`s labor issues;

· Influence labor-related lawmaking in China through such activities as the public issuance of research reports;

· Educate workers in China to the experiences of labor movements throughout the PRC;

· Support workers fighting for their rights in the Chinese courts.

CLW has a network of activists within China providing information to CLW members in other parts of the world. Its director in the United States is labor activist Li Qiang.
