Sustainable Table is a consumer campaign developed by the Global Resource Action Center for the Environment [GRACE]. It was launched to help fill in the gaps in the sustainable food movement, and to help direct consumers to the leading organizations who are working on the issue. Instead of becoming overwhelmed by all the problems surrounding our food supply, Sustainable Table celebrates the joy of food and eating.
The first two projects from Sustainable Table are:
The Meatrix [www.themeatrix.com], the critically acclaimed, award winning flash animation on factory farming. The four-minute film spoofs The Matrix movies in order to educate viewers about the problems with today’s meat supply.
The Eat Well Guide [www.eatwellguide.org], a project of GRACE and the Institute for Agriculture and Trade Policy, is an online directory of sustainably-raised meat, poultry, dairy and eggs. Consumers simply put in their zip code to find sustainable products from farms, stores, and restaurants in their area.
Sustainable Table is an introduction to issues surrounding today’s agricultural system and what is happening with our food, in particular, the meat supply. Our goal is to help you understand the issues, offer suggestions on what you can do, direct you to more in-depth information, and introduce you to the exciting and hugely popular sustainable food movement exploding around the world.
Rather than feeling hopeless over the problems with our food, Sustainable Table has been created to celebrate the possibilities and realities of this growing consumer movement. After learning about the problems we’re all confronted with, you’ll be introduced to organizations, people and programs that are changing the way we think about food.
