About [Edit]
CRANN works to make people aware of our trees, hedgerows and woodlands
promoting sustainable and biodiverse woodlands and encouraging the development of a vibrant Irish wood culture
CRANN' means tree in Irish.
Ireland was once covered with woodlands - it is now the least wooded country in Europe.
CRANN
Ireland's leading tree organisation, since 1986, is a voluntary, non-profit organisation (NGO) dedicated to planting trees and protecting Ireland's woodlands .
aims:
* to increase the broadleaf tree cover in Ireland
* to maintain, protect, develop, conserve and improve our Irish broadleaf woodland resources
* bring about the sustainable use of Irish grown hardwoods
* develop public education and awareness of the benefits of broadleaf trees and woodlands in terms of economical, social, cultural, natural and spiritual values
* promote and (if appropriate) participate in the development of crafts and industries based on the products of Irish broadleaf woodlands
Crann is an Irish non-governemental (NGO), non-profit organisation with branches nation-wide.
Over the years, Ireland has continuously imported tropical hardwoods from third world countries contributing to the causes of famine.
In 1986 Crann was set up by Jan Alexander to reverse this trend and to raise awareness of the importance of sustainable home-grown hardwood forestry to meet Ireland's timber needs.
