About  [Edit]

We are

The Willamette Farm and Food Coalition is a community-based non-profit organization committed to developing a more secure and sustainable food system within Lane County. We believe that a strong local food system contributes to the integral health of our entire community an we seek to facilitate greater understanding about the social, economic, and  environmental impacts of our food choices. The Coalition promotes the purchase of locally produced foods to keep our valuable agricultural land in production, to enhance the economic viability of the farming community, to protect human and environemental health, and to strengthen the local economy.

Our current projects include:

Local Farm’s First Campaign: publishing the Locally Grown Guide and developing a Locally Grown logo and signage for stores and restaurants.

Farm to School Program: offering an educational program to area schools that teaches kids about where their food comes from and assists school cafeterias in procuring foods from local growers.

Farmland Preservation:coordinating a working group of concerned citizens and organizations to identify remaining prime agricultural land, create educational materials for policymakers and planners, and investigate working land trust models.

Bean and Grain Project: building local markets for Oregon grown beans and grains as an incentive for farms to diversify and transition grass seed acreage to food crops.

Local Food for All: exploring ways to increase access to affordable locally grown food in low-income neighborhoods and increase availability of subsidized CSA shares and Farmers’ Market coupons for families in need.
