Our mission
The Portuguese Ecological Economics and Environmental Management Centre - ECOMAN, of the New University of Lisbon, is devoted to teaching and research in the fields of ecological economics and environmental management.
Our Objective
The objective of the Centre is to promote excellence in ecological economics and environmental management and to apply its concepts and methods in solving environmental policy problems.
The Centre has a strong experience in developing interdisciplinary work, integrating environmental and socio-economic aspects and its researchers have co-ordinated and participated in several research projects (national and international) and studies, namely dealing with integrated environmental management, design and evaluation of environmental policy instruments, economic aspects of river basin management, environmental assessment and modelling and cost-benefit analysis.
The Centre represents a major effort to improve the way important issues of training and research in natural science, economics and public policy are approached. The Centre also aims to contribute to improve environmental policy and practice in Portugal and to promote cooperation with Portuguese Speaking African Countries.
