Background

Established in 2003, Organized Centre for Empowerment & Advocacy in Nigeria, (OCEAN) is a non religious, non political, non profit and Non Governmental Organization (NGO) registered in Nigeria with the Corporate Affairs commission (CAC) and the Government of Plateau State. We are a broad-based developmental organization, due to the need to employ a multi-sectoral approach to advance the cause of Nigeria’s development with particular emphasis on the plight of women. OCEAN has a network of professionals in different fields who volunteer as the need arises.

The organization is working for gender balance, economic empowerment as well as transformation of the rural communities for self-reliance and attainment of a good standard of living through community based activities. Gender issues relating to women is the main aim of our activities in order to promote gender balance, social justice and development through strong advocacy by information dissemination, value based education, capacity building of individuals and communities, environmental issues such as access to water, sanitation and hygiene promotion are part of our activities and projects. Nigeria has a youthful population and a high dependence rate, so it is almost impossible not to have a youth development program focusing on youth development, HIV/AIDS and adolescent reproductive health this is essentially for social learning and social well being. In summary the overall objective of OCEAN is to significantly address women’s issues in these areas and encourage their participation at decision-making levels.
