About [Edit]
The Bumblebee Conservation Trust was founded in response to growing concerns about the 'plight of the bumblebee'. The founding members were very concerned by the dramatic declines experienced by many of our bumblebee species. We aim to raise awareness of the problems bumblebees face, and will strive to prevent further declines. Our members range from enthusiastic and concerned amateurs right through to internationally renowned research scientists, all sharing a common affection for these affable insects and a desire to see them conserved for future generations. Activities are coordinated from offices at the University of Stirling.
Our aim is to conserve bumblebees and the habitats in which they live through conservation and education.
- We publish a regular newsletter which includes interesting facts about bumblebees, and updates on bumblebee conservation
- We organise field meetings to teach people all about bumblebees and to help people identify them
- We coordinate a network of volunteer recorders to map bumblebee distributions in the UK
- We give talks to interested groups including local natural history societies and schools
- We advise landowners, managers and reserve wardens on bumblebee conservation issues
- We maintain this interactive website which contains all sorts of interesting information about bumblebees, as well as details of forthcoming events and activities.
