About  [Edit]

Building for Social Responsibility (BSR) is a group of Vermont building professionals and others who are concerned with the impact of their work on their communities and society. Many of today's “standard building practices” are directly linked to adverse environmental, social, or economic effects.

Building practices contribute unnecessarily to global warming, resource depletion, poor indoor air quality, and the shortage of affordable housing. These issues and others underscore the need to build environmentally sound, healthy, comfortable, durable and affordable homes.

Objectives

Building for Social Responsibility endorses the following principles as the basic tenets of our work:

- To apply energy efficient building principles.

- To use healthy and environmentally sound building materials and practices.

- To use renewable energy sources.

- To promote resource conservation through efficient architectural design, our choice of building materials, and our impact on the building site.

- To encourage responsible land use that ensures the preservation of natural areas, as well as valuable agricultural land.

- To advocate the construction of quality homes that are comfortable, durable, and affordable to a broad spectrum of people.

- To educate and enlighten building professionals, legislators, and the public to sustainable building practices.

- To encourage and support the entry of women into the building profession.

- To promote the businesses of our members by: networking, education, marketing, client referrals, providing information resources, and technical support.
