About us
The CEFEO is a non for profit organization incorporated in Ontario for the purposes of:
preserving our rural communities and our quality of life in East Hawkesbury and surrounding areas;
advancing the interests of residents in these areas;
assuring protection of the environment in these areas; and
facilitating the collection of information related to these purposes.
Since its creation on February 15, 2003, our organization has:
- researched the realities of hog factories and the risks they pose to rural communities, local farmers, the environment, public health, quality of life, local economy and sustainable development;
- published and distributed factsheets, briefs and other resources on these issues;
- facilitated awareness and mobilization of individuals and targeted communities;
- provided informative and education to the East-Hawkesbury Township council, and mayors of neighbouring towns in Quebec, provincial MPPs in Quebec and Ontario, federal MPs as well as civil servants of several ministries and jurisdictions [including our NEW Analysis The Case Against Industrial Hog Factories];
- made information available to local, regional and national media about the situation in East-Hawkesbury and related issues;
- organized peaceful demonstrations at city halls and bureaux [local hog factory and regional projected sites];
- spoke about the issues at numerous local community development gatherings and council meetings
- launched a fundraising campaign to collect donations
