About  [Edit]

SHARANYA is a federally-recognized Devi Mandir (Goddess Temple) and non-profit organization whose work is spiritual service in and for the world. We are a volunteer-run community dedicated to the bridging of East and West through (r)evolutionary, embodied spirituality, sadhana (spiritual practice), wisdom teachings, and worship of the Goddess in Her myriad forms. Ours is an engaged spirituality, and we especially honor Kali Maa, our beloved Dark Mother, as a change agent for our times, recognizing that She resides both inside and outside everyday awareness...helping to transform, empower, and heal individuals, communities, and the planet. Read our mission and vision here to learn more about what we believe possible and how we seek to engage the Great Mystery.

At SHARANYA, we honor the potential of the human heart and the force of spirituality as catalysts for change throughout all spheres of life. Ours is an ecofeminist vision that validates the sacred union, ahieros unios of Sacred Male and Sacred Female in the dance of life and consciousness, a dance that ultimately transcends limited notions and constructions of gender. Our work is toward the creation of peace in all realms. In our community, we practice and share devotion to Devi -- the Mother Worship of our spiritual ancestors in India -- with all who are ready to surrender their egos, open their hearts, free their minds, and liberate their spirits through Her grace.

Specifically, we are a unique 501(c)(3) religious organization and Devi Mandir (goddess temple) evolving Shakta (goddess-honoring) spirituality from ancient roots to serve those who seek to know Kali Maa beyond the boundaries of geography and religious dogma. With an authentic lineage in Shakta Tantra (embodied goddess-centered spirituality) and Witchcraft, ours is part of the new religious movement, a syncretism of faith known as Sha'can, a Western Shakta Tantra.

Often characterized as a "bridge between the worlds," our community and tradition are dedicated to the project of spiritual awareness bridging and integrating East and West, while retaining focus on the goddess- and woman-honoring path as we journey and evolve. We know that the fate of women, our planet, and the Divine Female are deeply interwoven. Liberating ourselves through the gateway of Maa helps to liberate everyone.

At our mandir, we are dedicated to an embodied, integral, and engaged spirituality that facilitates the life-affirming transformation of individuals, communities, and our world. We provide public ceremony, private worship, full and new moon circles, teachings, and other offerings regularly to aid seekers on the journey. Join us in the creation of an empowered community!

In addition to our sanctuary in the San Francisco Bay Area, SHARANYA also has a presence in India at the Maa Batakali Cultural Mission of Puri, Orissa, where our founder is "Chairman." It is here that we return to offer gratitudes just about every year for the gifts of the Divine Mother and the love of the people of India who have kept the goddess alive for thousands of years, inspiring so much of our work.
