Enhancing the welfare and conservation of badgers in Britain
The NFBG is a registered charity which promotes the conservation, welfare and protection of badgers, their setts and habitats. We are the leading voice for badgers in Britain and represent and supports 80 local voluntary badger groups. The NFBG provides expert advice on all badger issues and works closely with MPs, the police and other conservation and welfare organisations. We use all lawful means to campaign for the improved protection of badgers and the Federation is a member of the Partnership for Action Against Wildlife Crime [PAW].
Campaigns
TB Campaign
Since the early 1970s, badgers have been blamed for infecting cattle with bovine TB [bTB] and over 30,000 badgers have been killed by the Government. But there is no conclusive proof of a link and most badgers are not even infected with bTB. Killing badgers has failed and bTB is increasing in cattle.
The Government is now killing thousands more badgers in a controversial experiment to find out whether killing badgers can reduce bTB in cattle. Hundreds of badgers have already been killed and the slaughter is set to continue for several years.
Campaign Against Badger Cruelty
Thousands of badgers are killed illegally in Britain each year, experiencing great pain and suffering in the process. Cruelty comes in various forms:
Anti-Snare Campaign
The use of snares in Britain is inflicting needless suffering and death upon badgers and other wildlife. The NFBG is at the forefront of the campaign to ban the use of these cruel and indiscriminate killers.
