About  [Edit]

Kids 2020's goal is to help children learn how to make better choices for themselves based on values. This learning will enhance their self-worth, their family’s lives and the communities in which they live. We will do this via a multi-cultural, multi-lingual Learning Programme delivered to children in their own communities and across global online systems.

The Kids 2020 Foundation is a not-for-profit, learning and research organisation registered in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. Kids 2020 was born in 2004 as a media project for the Summit for the Future in Amsterdam. That inspired Dr. Colby Stuart to develop a unified project concept that would deliver a strategic skill set to children. In January 2007, the first children’s workshop was held in a primary school in The Netherlands: The Philosophy of Kids 2020: Learning the roles of values in our lives.

The seven phases of the Kids 2020 Learning Programme

In the last 6 months, we have invested significant time and effort developing the operational, business and funding plans and recruiting a powerful team of experts, managers and advisers.Over the next three years, Kids 2020 will be undertaking all the research, development and rollout for this Learning Programme. The process to develop this Learning Programme is one of research and prototyping. It will start with fundamental research into children’s learning processes. And because we are embarking upon what will become a global programme, we will also be creating a unique, international Teaching Programme – coaches guide the children and trainers train the coaches. There are few, if any, off-the-shelf answers or systems available to address this goal.

We will start in the Netherlands developing the Learning and Teaching Programmes in both Dutch and English (years 1 and 2) and will establish a Dutch Learning Lab. Then, we will develop the full programme Prototype (year 3) and open new Learning Labs in selected countries. The first major goal of the Prototype is to develop the Proof of Concept of the Learning and Teaching programmes, including the tools and techniques to deliver these to a global community. The interim results/products produced during this process will also be extremely valuable in their own right. Namely, during the prototyping phase, we will reach thousands of children and their parents, train hundreds of trainers and coaches and develop new, web-based communication and community systems.

Other languages and cultures can be accommodated based on the core models and experience we develop during this period. We will evaluate the use of Learning Labs using both fixed locations and possibly mobile labs, for face-to-face sessions with children, before determining the best strategy for a global rollout.

Thus, we envision a dynamic process of researching and developing new multi-cultural and multi-lingual processes, systems, techniques and materials that will support children’s learning, the training and the online global community. Wherever possible we will be working with and developing Open Source systems.

In addition, we will be directing and mobilising an international network of ambassadors and advocates to lobby government authorites to adopt policy strategies that have the health, education and welfare of children at their heart.

To date, the founding members of Kids 2020 have invested over 150,000 to establish the concepts, organization and business and financial models. We are now working on the initial web application and web infrastructure, including a platform for collaboration and a resource for all related information.

Importantly, we are now actively seeking funds to launch Kids 2020. We are approaching selected governments, foundations, corporations and individual contributors. We are also introducing a participation system for people who want to contribute...
