About [Edit]
The Institute of Environmental Economics is an environmental non-governmental organisation analysing economic aspects and measures in the field of environmental protection. Our aim is to draw attention of the society, decision-makers and other environmental organisations to the significance of financial factors in environmental protection activities.
We are aware that this is a very broad and complex issue and that it requires involvement of many organisations. Therefore we have decided to concentrate on a number of selected topics. Currently, our activities focus on European Union funds that provide co-financing for environmental protection infrastructure. We have already conducted an analysis of the availability of financial resources for implementation of the EU environmental directives in the fields of water management and waste management. We are also trying to promote public participation in bodies responsible for allocating EU resources for environmental protection. We have been participating in the activities of the Steering Committee for the Cohesion Fund at the Ministry of Environment, promoting selection of those projects that bring the most significant environmental benefits. We also prepare publications on economic aspects of environmental protection and conduct trainings in this field for members of environmental non-governmental organisations.
The Institute of Environmental Economics is an association and operates in the area of the whole country. It was established in 1998 as the Institute for Environmental Tax Reform. However, with time we had quite considerably extended the scope of our activities, which resulted in the change of the name. We are also a member of CEE Bankwatch Network, one of the largest environmental organisations in Central and Eastern Europe. Together with CEE BWN, the Institute has been participating in international activities focusing on financial instruments for environmental protection in the context of EU accession. Moreover, we have been cooperating with a number of domestic and international non-governmental organisations.
Further information on our activities is available in the section Projects, which describes selected projects implemented by the Institute, and in the section Publications, containing main Institute`s main publications.
