About [Edit]
Intermedia Arts is a multidisciplinary arts center, a gathering place where we can share stories through visual arts, theater, dance, music, literature--from folk arts to hip-hop culture.
Art is integrated in our daily lives, whether we know it or not. Art can effect change. And we believe in the power of the arts to inspire and build a sense of community.
Since 1973, we have been helping to develop of new art forms which are artistically, socially, and politically challenging. We act as a focal point for collaborations among artists and organizations.
Minneapolis. The 55408 neighborhood was the most natural habitat for our growing organization. In our new home, we began to accommodate our broadening role as a presenter, educator, and supporter of multidisciplinary art works. The location of our new facility in the Lyndale Avenue - Lake Street (Lyn-Lake) area brought us to the center of this heavily populated, racially diverse, younger, and more culturally active neighborhood.
It is here that Intermedia Arts has spent the past 12 years using the arts to provide an effective and productive way to stimulate discussion and reflection among neighbors with different points of view.
Today, we are ready to embrace and reflect more change. Just as we helped to put small-format video cameras in the hands of community members back in the '70s, we want to collaborate with you in our physical and virtual spaces by improving our digital resources. So we have begun to rebuild our website. And we will soon develop new opportunities for digital art works.
