About [Edit]
The South Yuba River Citizens League is a community-based educational nonprofit corporation committed to the protection, preservation and restoration of the entire Yuba Watershed. SYRCL works to fulfill its mission by aggressively seeking environmental solutions through the tools of education, organization, collaboration, litigation and legislation.
We also understand that the Yuba River cannot be seen apart from its watershed and that the well-being of the River depends on the condition of its watershed. Therefore, our vision of the future of the Yuba River includes a vision of a watershed ...
restored to conditions that support the return of salmon and steelhead to their ancestral headwater tributaries and where all native species can thrive free of the danger of catastrophic wildfires, maintained by a diversity of vegetation types and successional stages resembling that which might have occurred prior to settlement;
containing large tracts of wilderness and ancient forest free from the threat of development and exploitation;
that forever bears silent witness to those who have come before us to leave their marks and works upon the land.
In addition, we envision a future where ...
children of all ages will continue to come to the Yuba River to discover the intelligence of Nature and their own creative powers;
business and industry will continue to be attracted by a quality of the Yuba River environment yielding a steady flow of products and services by individuals and society, thereby helping to assure a healthy, sustainable regional economy;
the amenities given freely by the Yuba River and its watershed engender within us a sense of community based on place, where individual rights are respected and where individuals exercise their rights responsibly based on a sense of stewardship toward the river and a feeling of kinship toward one another, inspiring in governments, organizations, and citizens of all backgrounds and abilities a desire to safeguard the wild and scenic Yuba River and its watershed for their children and generations yet to be born.
From restoring wild salmon and steelhead to the upper reaches of the Yuba, to training a community of volunteer river monitors, to collaborating with agencies in a more balanced approach to water management, SYRCL pledges stewardship to the Yuba River Watershed and all its inhabitants.
