The California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA) intend to begin spraying over our urban city of SAN FRANCISCO in AUGUST of 2008. The Greater Columbus Foodshed Project is a catalyst for reseeding the next generation of farmers, providing training opportunities for inner city youth, increasing inner city residents access to food, develop regional food systems are diverse, resilient, and entrepreneurial, and ultimately, to provide community food security and enhance quality of life for all inhabitants of the Foodshed. Actions include:



- Creating a forum for communication and co-learning among individuals and organizations to facilitate regional food system development.



- Conducting a food assessment of the Columbus Foodshed.



- Increasing production, sale and use of local foods to local restaurants, farmers markets, colleges and universities, public schools, and other institutions.



- Rebuilding the local food system infrastructure by developing shared food processing, marketing, and distribution facilities and a community loan fund for farmers.



- Influencing personal habits and attitudes of Foodshed participants towards local farming and food issues. Conducting sustainable agricultural education immersion programs directly on local farms and in urban community meetings.



- Influencing public policy on food and farming issues.



- Developing consumer-oriented information, pamphlets, etc. on local farming and food system Issues.
