Bicyclists of Iowa City, Inc. (BIC) was founded in 1976. It is an organization of bicyclists in the Iowa City, Coralville, Hills, North Liberty, Lone Tree, Riverside, & the surrounding Johnson County, Iowa area interested in all aspects of cycling--transportation, recreation, health, fitness, travel & advocacy.



Purpose:



- To meet the needs of bicyclists in Iowa City and the surrounding area by:



- Promoting, defending, and protecting the rights of bicyclists as operators of vehicles.



- Encouraging and securing safe and desirable facilities for bicycling.



- Representing the interest of bicyclists with legislative and administrative groups on proposals relating to the establishment and maintenance of bicycle facilities, traffic regulations and enforcement, educational efforts and programs, and other matters affecting bicycling activities.



- Promoting the many benefits of bicycling.



- Making available to its members information about cycling, bicycle clubs and their activities, and other information and news relating to bicycling.



- Promoting interest and participation in all forms of bicycling activities including touring, commuting, racing and off-road riding.



- Encouraging and promoting Effective Cycling practices and principles, and bicycle safety education, for children and adults. Cooperating with law enforcement agencies in the observance of all traffic regulations as they apply to bicycles.
