Prakriti is a group of environment and development professionals that works in Himalayan Mountains of Uttarakhand (India) for more than a decade. Prakriti, as a mountain environment group was established in 1997 by likeminded environmental professionals towards environmental concern in mountain parts of India. The group works upon environmental protection and conservation related issues. It observes that, at present the mountain state Uttarakhand faces the problems of shrinking forest, depleting water resources, eroding tradition and bio-diversity losses. This group works through its comprehensive approach of mountain development for environmental security with the support of a numbers of national and international agencies.

Vision 

The vision of the group is to serve as a link between practice, science, policy and decision making for sustainable development in Himalayan Mountains. Prakriti is concerned about environmental conservation and development, and considers innovative and pro-environmental interventions in natural resource management processes. The group believes that, cohesive environmental planning and step-by-step programme can prompt human being to harmonize with natural environmental principals, and can help in natural resource balance for better quality of life.  Prakriti has a long term commitment to local and global community by maximizing its impact through strong advocacy and grass root level actions. The larger interventions of Prakriti are in water, forest and land resources, while it works upon grass root and policy planning and governance issues.
