About  [Edit]

Village Vancouver inspires individuals and organizations to take actions that build resilient and sustainable communities. We support ideas and initiatives to strengthen neighbourhoods and to promote social, environmental and economic change in the face of profound ecological stress/crisis. We encourage individuals and groups to unite/collaborate in support of common goals and actions and to have fun together!

Our Vision is What We are Actively Working to Achieve

Our city has to play its part in the global transition movement.  We hope to help Vancouver progress more quickly and healthfully toward lower-carbon and more highly connective and resilient communities.

Village Vancouver believes that by bringing people together to share our concerns and dreams, we create the possibility of change. We have no blueprint. Innovative responses will emerge out of the exchange of ideas and shared interests.  This belief in the self-organizing capacity of communities to create change is at the heart of our organizing principles.

Village Vancouver provides a model of open community organizing and capacity-building. We use organizing tools such as blogs (web), conferences, dialogues, neighbourhood potlucks and other informal gatherings to bring people together and to facilitate sharing of our dreams and goals.

Village Vancouver supports individuals and community groups by enabling and supporting diverse efforts to reconnect with neighbours and ecosystems. Village Vancouver is a collaborator, facilitator, fundraiser and funder of local endeavours to build sustainable communities.  We are teachers and learners and strive to inspire creative and critical thinking, questioning, planning and action.  We aspire to shared leadership based on mutual trust, transparency and individual and collective accountability and responsibility.

As a non-profit society (and eventually a registered charitable organization), we will access and make available resources to support initiatives that are consistent with our mission and goals. Our volunteer teams with knowledge and expertise in: ecology, transportation, community activism, education, planning, architecture, building and housing, are resources for community groups, individuals and neighbourhoods.

Our deepest dream is to engage the creative capacity of individuals and organizations to build vibrant, engaged neighbourhood villages that transform Vancouver into a sustainable and just city for all.
