About [Edit]
Hunger is a growing and persistent problem in Utah, many Utahns did not benefit from the economic boom of the late 1990's, in fact the sharpest recorded rise in the use of emergency food providers happened during this time. Additionally, food stamp caseloads were on sharp decline during this same period, a side effect of the implementation of the Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Act of 1996, popularly known as welfare reform.
While the challenge of ending hunger looms large and seems impossible, UAH believes that hunger can end. Utahns Against Hunger works to eliminate hunger in a number of ways:
- Working with emergency food pantries, providing them with information to assist their clients
- Expansion of child nutrition programs
- Work to improve the implementation of public policy in federal nutrition programs, as well as monitoring program effectiveness and ease of access
- Statewide distribution of resource information tailored for each region
- Direct service, providing a comprehensive list of emergency food pantries to the community as well as assisting people with food stamp problem resolution
