About [Edit]
Introduction
Asian Conservation Alliance Task Force is an international organization, which works in collaboration with its Asian partner NGO`s for building up a regional framework in the Asian region to address the issues concerning the conservation of flora and fauna of the region. International environment regarding wildlife protection has recently changed due to rapid economic globalization.
The promotion of free trade and investment by a monolithic union of countries worldwide necessarily increases the threat to wildlife and its habitat. CITES, which regulates international trade has been directly affected by this trend. In fact, a utilization-oriented policy has been promoted in CITES since the last decade.
The Asian region enjoys rich biodiversity and is a big source of supply for commercial wildlife trade and a prominent destination of wildlife traded for consumption. Thus, to meet the present day challenges with regard to wildlife conservation/animal welfare, NGOs worldwide have now to reorganize their strategy.
ACATF would initiate to develop a wild fauna and flora conservation framework in the Asian region and would carryout projects in these regions with the objective of bringing into light the various threats and constrains affecting wild fauna and flora.
Mission Statement
ACATF seeks to co-operate with CITES Parties in any decision making processes that aid wildlife conservation and wild animal welfare by combating illegal trade in wildlife, enhance enforcement of CITES regulations and improve animal welfare standards in Asia
Asian NGO Network: Any Asian NGO involved in conservation/animal welfare and that complies with the mission statement of ACATF can join this network. The organization would be known as a Partner NGO of ACATF.
Priority Issues of ACATF
1.Trade of flira and fauna
2. Ivory trade
3. Trade in whales and introduction from the sea.
4. Conservation of and trade in Asian big cats [Tiger, Leopards, Snow Leopards and Clouded Leopards]
