About  [Edit]

Friends of the Los Angeles River is a non-profit organization founded in 1986 to protect and restore the natural and historic heritage of the Los Angeles River and its riparian habitat through inclusive planning, educationand wise stewardship.

The River`s health increasingly becomes a concern of local government, community based non-profits and private stakeholders. Understanding that effective urban watershed restoration is necessarily complex and long term, meaningful success must involve multiple stakeholders, FoLAR has formed alliances over the years with the State Water Resources Control Board, the County Department of Public Works, the Department of Water and Power, the Department of Recreation and Parks, and local and State officials to conduct research and find solutions for restoring the watershed. FoLAR has also had the good fortune to work with the Museum of Natural History on the first survey of the biota in the River and the California Coastal Conservancy on avifauna and invasive plant life.
