About [Edit]
An all volunteer not-for-profit organization working for wise energy choices that will sustain future generations economically & environmentally.
The Coalition for Sensible Energy, CSE, is a not-for-profit membership organization formed in the early nineties by individuals opposed to the construction of a coal-fired electricity generating plant in Bucksport, Maine which would harm the environment because of its discharges.We studied the issue and presented a policy document on Sustainable Energy to the Maine Energy Commission in l992.
We seek, in particular, members who have an interest or working knowledge of sustainable renewable energies. These would include:
* solar thermal collectors to heat homes
* solar photovoltaics for electricity
* fuel cells; improved battery storage technology; flywheels
* increased vehicle efficiency; advanced propulsion; alternative transportation
* non-fossil fuels, such as hydrogen
* biomass energy for heating, ethanol, synthetic fuels
* windpower for electricity, pumping
* hydroelectric, including pumped storage
* geothermal for heat pumps
Global Climate Change
CSE believes that the globe is warming and that climate change is occurring at a faster rate than ever before as a result of human activity, and CSE takes action based on this reality.
Transportation
No global warming solution will succeed unless we can 1) Control the emissions from our cars and improve fuel efficiency, 2) Clean up our electrical power generating plants and 3) Step up use of wind and solar energy.
Energy Efficiency
Much energy is saved in the home by the use of energy-efficient lights and appliances such as refrigerators, washers, TVs, computers, etc. Purchasing appliances that carry the Energy Star rating labels not only saves energy, but saves you money.
Energy Conservation
A primary way to reduce energy consumption is to not use it in the first place, such as wash your clothes (or rinse them) in cold water. Then hang clothes outside to dry.
