About  [Edit]

The major challenge of the EUCC Baltic Office was to enhance cooperation of local NGOs in coastal rural areas, particularly around the Curonian lagoon. The EUCC Baltic Office and its partner NGOs received capacity training in networking. To foster coastal networks in the South-East Baltic they produced a special newsletter, created a web site of specialised helpdesk services following “farmers to farmers” principle and made several documents on sustainable agriculture in the Curonian Lagoon region and for the entire region, and an integrated action plan for coastal floodplains.

On Rune Island, Nemunas Delta, the established dairy-farming cooperative still benefits from the ongoing demonstration programme that facilitates a shift from haymaking to silage production which is more economically sustainable and more suitable for the habitat conservation of breeding waders.

The EUCC Baltic Office staff has served as a contact node and information dispatcher for the activities described and as a “clearing house” for all problems and bottlenecks related to the progress of these programmes.
