About [Edit]
Youth Together: Building Just Communities Through Developing the Leadership of Our Youth
Youth Together [YT] was formed in 1996 as a community-based response to increased inter-racial conflicts and violence in our school communities. At six high schools in Oakland, Berkeley, and Richmond, CA, YT works with youth to develop their leadership to lead and organize school change campaigns that promote multiracial unity, educational justice, and youth empowerment.
Our model combines multiracial youth development with community organizing and school community building strategies. By addressing the root causes of oppressive conditions they face, the youth become empowered to take control over their lives and well-being. As leaders and organizers they work, in turn, to empower their communities.
Our ongoing efforts include:
[1] developing the leadership, resiliency, and empowerment of urban youth,
[2] promoting multiracial justice, peace and unity,
[3] conducting school change campaigns and community building initiatives,
[4] operating school/community collaboratives, and
[5] implementing newly developed Student Centers on campus.
