About [Edit]
Mission:
To improve the quality of life for immigrants and refugees and to ensure dignity and respect by organizing and uniting communities through education, leadership development and direct services and by promoting the voice of community in public policy
Programs
English Literacy/Civics [EL/Civics]
CAAELII provides integrated English literacy and civics education to immigrant and other limited English proficient population so they may learn how to become active community members.
Community Organizing
CAAELII lead organizer works with the staff organizers from each participating agency to develop the community groups to work towards social justice for Chicago`s immigrant and refugee communities.
Independent Monitoring Board
With the support of 44 endorsing organizations, CAAELII`s policy advocacy program serves as an independent, nongovernmental watchdog to ensure that the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services [USCIS] treats the public with fairness and in a professional and timely manner; and to ensure BCIS accountability to the public.
Computer Technology Project [CTP]
CAAELII bridges the Digital Divide for its partner agencies while providing curriculum for low literacy English students.
Citizenship and Voter Training School [CIVITAS]
Modeled after Martin Luther King, Jr.`s Highlander Center, CIVITAS is a place to meet, a place to learn, a place to organize. The goals of CIVITAS are to create a space for reflection and a "gathering place" where community leaders can join together with others who share their concerns, and to integrate the EL/Civics, Organizing, and Technology programs at CAAELII into a comprehensive and integrated activity for all CAAELII partner agencies.
