Background:
AMSSA is a non-partisan, non-profit, province-wide umbrella organization representing 79 multicultural and immigrant-helping organizations.
Objectives:
AMSSA strives to create widespread awareness around issues such as employment equity, accessible health care, and racism.
Activities:
The association provides leadership in identifying critical issues for research and policy development. It serves as a resource for all levels of government, social and public institutions, and corporate and community organizations by providing consultation and guidance, and policy and program implementation. It organizes and co-sponsors conferences, workshops, lectures, etc. to educate the public. AMSSA's activities fall into two categories: social equity and justice issues, and sectoral and institutional change. In the first category, AMSSA is active in the areas of anti-racism, citizenship education, cross-cultural communication, cultural heritage and heritage languages, English as a foreign language, human rights, immigrant settlement and integration service, refugee assistance, status of visible minorities, and so on.
