Background: The Centro Nacional de Comunicacion Social (CENCOS), founded in 1965 and incorporated 23 April of that year.



Objectives: CENCOS is dedicated to the preservation of human rights throughout the continent.



Activities: It works closely with such organizations as the Comision Evangelica Latinoamericana de Educacion Cristiana (CELADEC) and the Centro Internacional de Informacion Latinoamericana (CIILA) in publishing reports on the human rights situation throughout the region. It is also a part of the Frente Nacional Contra la Represion (FNCR). CENCOS publishes three periodicals and has its own reporters and information network to collect national and international alternative information that may not appear in the traditional, highly controlled press. Through its periodicals, CENCOS denounces human rights violations and seeks continental solidarity in the struggle to abolish these abuses. CENCOS also maintains a documentation center.
