About [Edit]

http://sustainablecascadia.org/
Sustainable Cascadia is a bioregional initiative to achieve sustainability in one generation. Sustainable Cascadia stewards a collaborative process of change among the bioregional hubs over several years where we share strategies, leverage resources, plan and implement actions, learn, and share what's working.
Sustainable Cascadia invites an alliance of cities, communities and organizations to co-create an ongoing action agenda to address the critical sustainability issue most affecting our common future. We are priveledged to share a common region of the web of life – the Cascadia Bioregion. Our local initiatives and solutions serve as models that easily travel and are implemented in other cities/surrounding areas. Sustainable Cascadia offers a series of Cascadia Convergence events. These "World's Fairs on sustainability" recognize cities that are already leaders by inviting them to host an event, starting with Seattle in October 2007.
Each year, the Cascadia Convergence will identify 1-2 key issues that need to be acted upon now, and develop the best collective strategy for doing so. Sustainable Cascadia supports the ongoing action agenda by inviting a new city to host the next event and planning process. This encourages local hubs to offer their own distinct competence and issue focus, weaving over time the multiple issue threads of an interconnected sustainability agenda.
Over time, with repeated annual cycles of planning, convening, and implementing solutions, we will catalyze critical shifts in our rate of progress and help more and more people adopt a cultural ethos of sustainability. We are at a time of critical mass, when sustainability values, ideas and products can virally spread through the mainstream culture. The big dream of Sustainable Cascadia is to spur a 2nd Renaissance that regenerates society and the natural world.
CASCADIA CONVERGENCE 2007
Cascadia Convergence 2007 took place in October at the Seattle Center. The theme was ‘Climate Action and Citizen Engagement' in concert with Mayor Greg Nickels' Climate Action Summit. These two events and all the others in GreenOctober combined to make a local, regional and national statement of high visibility about the urgency of climate change and sustainability.
Mayor Nickels hosted mayors and senior staff from 421+ cities across the United States who have signed onto the goals of the Kyoto Initiative, Cascadia Convergence 2007 showcased community work and climate action solutions from the myriad sectors to emphasize what's working. Offerings ranged from great speakers, to large scale, community- wide town meetings to address climate action policy, to a full range of sustainability related topics, as well as hands-on tools/resources and demonstrations for how to reduce carbon footprints in businesses, at home and more. Local initiatives gained support and participation from being showcased during Cascadia Convergence 2007. The fair attracted businesses and citizens to participate with its green expo, arts/cultural festival, public demonstrations and education, media, special events, and more.
Thank you to those who joined in the fun!
