About [Edit]
At Amazon-Africa Aid, we believe that anything you imagine can be made into a reality. We imagine a world of healthy, educated, and happy children who have clean water to drink and fresh air to breath. Amazon-Africa Aid was started with the dream of affecting change - change in existing conditions and changes in people's attitudes.
Amazon-Africa Aid is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization supporting the Fundação Esperança, a Brazilian nonprofit organization that has been providing health and education to the inhabitants of the Amazon for over 30 years. We rely heavily on volunteer and donor support.
Brazil Programs
Poverty and the problems associated with poverty such as inadequate housing, poor health and nutrition, and a failing educational system are prevalent throughout Santarém and its surrounding regions. The average monthly income is equivalent US$100. Due to a lack of adequate infrastructure in rural areas, the migration of people to Santarém has been very large. The city has a population of over 250,000 people. Consequently, the city, with its already limited resources, has not been able provide services for the ever-growing population and has been unable to address the expanding rate of poverty, especially for those who live in the periphery of Santarém.
The following describes our activities:

Mozambique Programs
Mozambique is a country twice the size of California located on the south-east coast of Africa with a population of 18 million. A 20 year civil war ravaged the country. Shortly after the war ended in 1996, floods in 1998 reaped more damage on Mozambique. Now, AIDS is devastating the country with a prevalence is as high as 23% in some regions and leaving thousands of children orphaned. In addition to AIDS, malaria, cholera, limited access to fresh water, and other health problems are prevalent throughout the country.
Amazon-Africa Aid and the Fundação Esperança have partnered with the Mozambique NGO Reencontro to help improve the lives of over 4,000 children orphaned by AIDS. Roughly translated, "Reencontro" means to "Reunite." Reencontro works to do just that… reunite children with their community.
Reencontro trains community activists and leaders to help provide food, educational materials, and counseling to the orphans. Each child has two activists who work with him/her to ensure that they eat properly, attend school, and stay healthy.
Additionally, Reencontro work with other organizations to ensure the care of people infected with AIDS and work to prevent the spread of the disease.
