About  [Edit]

Mission Statement:

For future generations of all species, the Siskiyou Project is the grassroots network dedicated to permanently protecting the globally outstanding Klamath-Siskiyou forests. The Siskiyou Project combines science, education and advocacy to build an inspired and effective local and national constituency for this special place.

Organization Description:

Siskiyou Project has been working to protect biodiversity in the Klamath-Siskiyou bioregion of southwest Oregon and northwest California since our incorporation in 1983. Based near the rural community of Cave Junction, we are the primary conservation organization working for protection of the Siskiyou Mountains. We use environmental education, science, conservation advocacy, and economics as tactics to achieve our goals. Our current programs are the Siskiyou Wild Rivers education and advocacy program and the Siskiyou Field Institute, an ecological field studies program for all ages and educational levels.

Projects:

1. The Siskiyou Wild Rivers Protection and Restoration Campaign is working to create a place where future generations can enjoy wild salmon and trout, rushing rivers, and the wonders of Siskiyou mountains and forests for years to come.

2. We are campaigning to stop the Biscuit Logging Project, the largest timber sale in modern history, this project drives a stake into the heart of the Siskiyou Wild Rivers area, threatening the area`s future.

3. Mining: Though economically insignificant, mining is a serious threat to salmon, rivers and rare plants in the Siskiyou.

4. Protection for Wolves Coming to Oregon: The Siskiyou Project is now actively involved in a new wolf plan allowing for natural redistribution of wolves to their historic ranges in Oregon.
