Introduction
The Center for Integrated Plant Systems is multidiscplinary research center. CIPS is part of the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources and is supported by the college jointly with the Michigan Agricultural Experiment Station and MSU Extension. The CIPS is an interdisciplinary unit with faculty from the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources, the College of Natural Science, and the College of Social Science.
Mission Statement
The mission of this center is to develop, evaluate, integrate and extend knowledge about ecologically based integrated crop management (ICM) policies, strategies, tactics and tools. ICM systems will be designed to enhance the economics, environmental quality and overall quality of life of Michigan's citizens and of our global community.
Guiding Principles
The MSU Center for Integrated Plant Systems:
1. is an interdisciplinary research and extension unit designed to facilitate integration of knowledge from the pest management, production system, and fundamental science disciplines;
2. is constructed to serve as a focal point for rapid and strategic research and implementation within the University and throughout Michigan;
3. has initiatives that are based on the fundamental concepts of the Land Grant University Philosophy
4. implements program and service areas for integration and coordination activities
5. identifies and analyzes critical issues, develops and integrates dynamically-evolving pest management and ICM systems, and develops responses to socioeconomic, regulatory, environmental and consumer consequences in Michigan and our global community
